Who Are We Really Fighting?
Let’s be honest—some days just feel like a fight, don’t they?
You’re short on sleep. The kids are melting down before 8AM. Your spouse says something sideways. That coworker is pushing all the wrong buttons. It’s like you’re in a constant battle just to hold it all together.
And most of the time, we assume the battle is them. Or us. Or just “how life is right now.”
But what if it’s deeper than that?
What if the real fight isn’t with your spouse, your kids, your boss—or even yourself?
What if you’re in a spiritual battle... and didn’t even realize it?
The Real Enemy Isn't Who You Think
In Ephesians 6:12, Paul tells us:
In other words: your spouse isn’t the enemy.
Your anxiety isn't just in your head.
That shame spiral at 2AM isn’t just because you’re overthinking.
There’s an enemy who wants to keep you stuck, discouraged, divided, and distracted.
And the more unaware we are of that, the more he wins.
So… How Do We Actually Fight Back?
Here are 4 real-life, practical ways to start winning the spiritual battles that show up in your everyday life:
1. Pause Before You React
When tension rises—at home, at work, even internally—pause and ask:
“What’s really going on here?”
A lot of the time, the situation is spiritual before it's situational. Recognizing that helps you respond instead of react.
2. Pray Like You're in a Fight (Because You Are)
This isn’t a “Dear God, bless this day” kind of moment.
It’s: “God, I need your help right now. Give me peace, give me wisdom, give me your strength.”
You don’t have to be eloquent, just honest. Talk to Him like you would a friend who’s got your back.
3. Get in the Word (Even Just a Verse)
You don’t need to read a whole chapter every day. But find a verse that speaks truth over your situation and meditate on it.
Here’s one to start with:
“The Lord will fight for you; you need only to be still.” – Exodus 14:14
4. Bring It Into the Light
The enemy works best in secrecy and isolation. Talk to someone you trust: a friend, a group leader, someone from church. Let them speak life and truth over you. You were never meant to fight alone.
Bottom Line...
Yes, life is hard. And people are messy. But the true fight isn’t with them, it’s with what’s trying to divide, distract, and destroy you from the inside out.
Good news? You don’t have to fight it alone.
God’s already equipped you with His power, His presence, and His people. You just have to recognize the battle… and suit up.
